In memoriam: Sumedha Uniyal
19 February 2020
Sumedha Uniyal, who was a Ph.D. student at IDSIA between 2013 and 2017, passed away on Wednesday 19th February 2020 morning.

She was born on May 11th, 1985 in New Delhi. She did her undergraduates in Mathematics and Computing from IIT Delhi, one of the premier institutes in India. She worked in the corporate sector for some years. During this time, she realized her true calling which was her love for Mathematics and Theoretical Computer Science. Once she realized that, she left her lucrative corporate career and took a research associate position under the supervision of Prof. Naveen Garg. After that, she pursued her Ph.D. from IDSIA under the supervision of Prof. Fabrizio Grandoni, where she made an important contribution to research. Presently, she was working with Prof. Parinya Chalermsook as a postdoctoral researcher.

She was an avid runner and loved to run along the lakefront and in the forest. The ones among us who had the pleasure to know Sumedha, remember her as a very kind, energetic and passionate person. She will be missed by her family and friends. We will remember her as a passionate theoretical computer scientist and as an avid runner.
