about me
I was born in Santos, Brazil. Later, I moved to São Paulo where I obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering with specialization in Automation & Control, and a Master degree in Mechatronics from Universidade de São Paulo.
While I was a Master student, I worked at the Decision Making lab with Prof. Fabio Cozman. My Master thesis is an attempt to use hierarchical latent models (e.g., latent Dirichlet allocation) to improve the accuracy of sentiment classifiers (a special case of text document classifiers).
Since 2009, I have been living in Lugano, in Southern Switzerland, where I work at IDSIA as a Researcher/PhD student.
research
My research is focused on the theory and application of probabilistic graphical models. In the past, I have worked with natural language processing, hierarchical Bayesian models, probabilistic logics, clustering with constraints, and e-learning. I am now mostly concerned with inference in discrete probability models (e.g., discrete Bayesian, Markov and decision networks) and imprecise probability models (that is, models specified by sets of probability measures).
