In 1997 I graduated with honors in Computer Science Engineering at Politecnico di Milano (Italy), under the supervision of Prof. Giorgio Guariso and Prof. Luca Maria Gambardella; in the same year I won a prize in the Whizzkids'97 competition on combinatorial optimization, designed by Prof. Dr. J.K. Lenstra and Prof. Dr. Emile Aarts from the Technical University of Eindhoven. In 2002 I received a summa cum laude Ph.D. degree in Computer Science at University of Kiel (Germany), under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Klaus Jansen. I joined IDSIA as a PhD student in 1998. Since 2004 I hold a permanent position as senior researcher at IDSIA. I'm Professor at the University of Applied Sciences of Southern Switzerland since 2009.
