08 March 2021
Alessandro Giusti, senior researcher at the Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence (IDSIA USI-SUPSI) was interviewed by Corriere del Ticino.

Artificial Intelligence has grown exponentially and now dominates every tool and sphere of our daily and professional lives. Alessandro Giusti, senior researcher at the Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence (IDSIA USI-SUPSI) discussed this topic in an interview published by Corriere del Ticino on 3 March 2021.

The debate on Artificial Intelligence and its applications, especially from an ethical point of view, is far from being resolved. One of the most controversial issues concerns the impact of AI on unemployment. "Some jobs will probably disappear, as it was with the introduction of the computer. But each innovation has also created more qualified professionals to manage the new tools" explained Giusti.

Regarding the potential development of feelings by machines, the researcher commented: “The self-awareness of computers is an open problem, which involves ethical aspects and on which there are many different opinions. So far, there is no artificial intelligence capable of feeling emotions, as we understand them”.
