The Bachelor in Data Science grows further
12 August 2021
Francesco Flammini, Head of the Bachelor in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, outlined the progress of the degree course one year after its launch and illustrated its future directions in an interview with Ticinoscienza.ch.

In September 2020, the Department of Innovative Technologies of SUPSI launched its fifth Bachelor in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, achieving a success that is confirmed by the data themselves: for the next academic year 2021-2022, enrollments have even doubled.

«This year the number of students enrolled has practically doubled compared to the first edition: we have about forty students coming from every continent. What drives them is the passion for new technologies, but also the interest for a job which offers a very high employment rate with important salaries» explains Prof. Francesco Flammini, Head of the Bachelor in DS&AI.

Data is playing an increasingly central role in every sector of our society. The Department of Innovative Technologies, always focused on emerging innovations, soon realized the potential of training professionals capable of interfacing with a constantly evolving scenario full of opportunities.

«For the moment our focus is mainly on finance and pharmaceuticals, two very strong sectors in Ticino, but we are already turning our attention to other fields of great interest on a global scale, such as social networks and autonomous driving systems for cars and drones» comments Flammini.

With the peculiarity of being delivered in English, the three-year course in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence maintains the strong practical component that characterizes all SUPSI courses: Hackathons, Data Challenge and alternative pedagogical methods make the learning path more dynamic and interactive, as well as already oriented towards the working world.

For the future, our ambition is to become an excellence in the field of data science and artificial intelligence, a point of reference at the international level» concludes the Professor.
