The National Center of Competence in Research (NCCR) Robotics is closing its activities after 12 years of research and innovation, that fostered collaboration across many Swiss labs, including IDSIA USI-SUPSI.
During the closing ceremony, the paper titled "A Machine Learning Approach to the Visual Perception of Forest Trails for Mobile Robots”, authored in 2015 in collaboration between IDSIA and at the University of Zurich, has been awarded as the most impactful over the whole duration of the NCCR initiative.
We congratulate the IDSIA team who contributed to it: Alessandro Giusti, Jérôme Guzzi, Dan Ciresan (currently CEO of Conndera Research), Gianni Di Caro (currently with CMU in Qatar), Juergen Schmidhuber, and Luca Gambardella, as well as two coauthors that at the time were assistants at IDSIA during their studies at SUPSI: Fang-Lin He (now at Meta) and Juan Pablo Rodriguez Gomez (now at University of Seville).
